Friday, November 10: Revelation 11- God is worthy .

John’s Revelation is a difficult book to follow, but major themes do emerge even though I might not understand everything. Today I received the first glimpse of God’s future reign.

God wins! This is never doubt in the revelation.

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become

the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,

and he will reign for ever and ever.”

And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,

the One who is and who was,

because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.

The nations were angry, and your wrath has come.

The time has come for judging the dead,

and for rewarding your servants the prophets

and your people who revere your name, both great and small—

and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm. (15-19).

The first thing that hit me as I read this was the Halleluiah Chorus of Handel’s Messiah..

The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of the Lord and of His Christ, And he shall reign forever and ever… Halleluiah, halleluiah, halleluiah halleluiah!

The tune is exploding in my mind… I had to listen to it. Oh, my tears welled in my eyes! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUZEtVbJT5c). What a devotional moment. God reigns… all the pain and struggle and the service is worth standing with the Lord as He reigns!

It is no wonder to me that the 24 elders fell in worship. That is exactly what my soul did. He is worthy, Oh, so worthy of all my worship… all our worship… all the worship creation can possibly muster. God is worthy!!! Halleluiah!

Oh, Lord, You are worthy to receive all praise and honor and glory for You are mighty and full of wonder. Halleluiah! Amen!
