Moses returns to the
mountain and meets the Lord. During his 40-days with the Lord, summarized in
this chapter God reveals much about Himself. I found myself pondering aspects of
God’s self-revelation given to Moses.
God’s name, the Lord
(5&6) Yahweh: self-existent, eternal. Ponder this thought for a moment. I
don’t know about you but my mind explodes. The Lord is self-existent…
Merciful, gracious,
compassionate (6) Oh my, do I need to know this! I mess up so often… bless You,
Lord, for Your mercy.
Forgiving (7) My, I need
this, too.
Just…does not let the
guilty go unpunished (7) I pondered how this fits with the previous. Even
though I struggle to understand how they work together, I trust that God
knows.
Covenant making (10) The
Lord puts His reputation on the line in the covenants He makes with
us.
And so I spent my morning
thinking about God’s revelation of Himself to Moses on the mountain, and what it
says to me about how God is to me…
Lord God, You
could have remained aloof and distant from us but yet You have chosen again and
again to reveal Yourself to us so that we may know You, be known by You and
worship You. Bless You, Lord, for being our knowable God. Through Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
