Tuesday, April 9: Exodus 35– A time for instruction and a time for work…

It is time for Israel to get down to it and construct the tabernacle. This is an “all hands on deck operation.” Giving, sewing, shaping, carrying, fabricating, collecting, assembling… there are skilled and unskilled tasks. There is room for everyone to take part some way.
God’s family still operates like that to this day. After attending to God’s instructions and directions, the work of God takes all the people of God doing their part. The imagery of 1Corinthins 12 with its picture of the church being a body explodes in my thoughts. Everyone playing her or his part!
The question that springs from all of this is simple, “Am I playing my part? Am I doing what I can do to advance God’s agenda throughout the world? Am I?”
Are you?
Lord, too often I wait for You to show me what You want me to do. Something doesn’t sit right with me on this, probably because it involves a lot of passiveness.
Lately I have been thinking it is better to roll up my sleeves and begin doing something and in my activity asking You is there anything I could be doing to advance Your will more effectively?
Lord, is this more what You have in mind?
My longing is to expend my life serving You, but I can all too easily get sidetracked on self-centered aspects of life. Teach me Your ways that I might do Your work for Your glory. Amen.
