But
only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and
never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people
had committed in ignorance (7).
This verse caught my eye…
the high priest offered sacrifices once a year for sins of ignorance!? What
about sins of intention? Was there no atoning for
them?
This thought plagues
me…
Verses 14-15 come to the
rescue. How much more, then, will the blood
of Christ… cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death… that those who
are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as
a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first
covenant (14-15).
The blood of Christ
cleanses us from acts that lead to death and sets people from sins committed
under the first covenant. Thank You Lord! So faith in Jesus is the covering for
sins still remaining under the first covenant.
In other words, Jesus’
blood covers all sins. That fits with 1John 1:9 where John explains that
if we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
As I consider this, I am
reminded of July 4th, the day Americans celebrate Independence Day.
July 4th is the day Americans celebrate our freedom. For
Christ-followers, we can celebrate every day as our freedom from the tyranny of
sin, our freedom from death and eternal destruction.. thanks to Jesus.
Thousands and thousands of
US soldiers have paid the price so that we, Americans, can be free. Jesus paid
the price so that everyone who believes in Him can be free.
Have you put your faith in
Jesus? Do you believe in Jesus? Are you free… free from the condemnation of sin
and free to live and serve the living God? Are you
free?
Jesus, I
thank and praise You for my freedom and I pray that everyone who follows, reads
or even stumbles upon this blog will know the wonder and joy of Your pardon,
redemption and freedom! I pray this in Your name, Jesus.
Amen.
