Friday, May 31: Leviticus 7– The gift of offerings…

More on the various offerings… I find myself a bit impatient with all the nuances of the offerings. What the person does, how the priest is to handle and offer it, and now more regulations for the guilt and fellowship offering.
As I slowed myself and thought, it occurred to me how crucial the sacrifices were for the Jewish people. These sacrifices were the heart of their faith and the central aspect of their worship and connection with the Lord; of course they want to get it right. Not to mention that there were certain mishandling of offerings that rendered them invalid, like eating a fellowship offering the 3rd day (see verse 18). Even worse, if someone eats the fat or blood they are to be cut off from the people (verses 22-27). Talk about a punishment!
The benefits were great when offerings were made but the stakes were high if things were not done properly.
Lord, forgive me for being so impatient with Your Word. Every jot, every tittle is given for our benefit. It tells Your story and every word of Your Word is given by You to instruct those who read it exactly what You need for us to know about You in order to live for You.
Forgive me, Lord, for my impatience handling Your divine Word.

Thank You for speaking to me, to us, by Your Word. In Jesus, the living Word’s Name, I pray. Amen.
