Reading the ordination of
Aaron, I was struck by the placing of his hands on the bulls or rams to be
slaughtered. This happened multiple times and Aaron even held the grain offering
before it was offered. I thought of the symbolism of these
acts.
Placing his hands on the
animal to be slaughtered, it was as if he was saying this animal is given
instead of me. I offer myself as a sacrifice to You. Another way of saying it
might be… this animal’s life is offered to make atonement for my life… life for
life.
I kept trying to feel what
it would be like to intentionally and ceremonially place my hands on an animal
as it was slaughtered. How significant, how special that moment would
be.
Lord, I
couldn’t help but go to Jesus. He was sacrificed in my place. He, the
sacrificial lamb, stretched out His hands on the cross reaching out to me. I am
overwhelmed.
God Himself
became my sacrifice and where I couldn’t reach out to Him, He reached out to me!
Wow…
Praise You,
Oh my Father, praise You, Oh Jesus, praise You, Oh Holy Spirit, for meeting me
in my sin and paying the penalty I deserve. Alleluia. Praise You.
Amen.
