Wednesday, October 31: Acts 28 - To the ends of the earth.

Acts begins with the command to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth (1:8). In today’s reading we have Paul reaching Rome… “prit’ near” the ends of the earth for villagers from Palestine. The movement of God’s Word is well under way!

In Rome Paul arranged to speak to a large number of Jews. From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe (23-24).

In that final sentence we see a microcosm of the spread of faith in Jesus, some believe and others would not. Who, how, why some believe and some don’t, I do not know, only God knows.  But that some would believe is a certainty and this certainty is what drove Paul and the early believers to keep on telling Jesus’ Story. And it is what should compel me to keep on telling Jesus’ story… some will believe! To the glory of God and the salvation of humankind. Alleluia!

Lord, help me to keep on telling Your Story. Your Story of redemption and love and Jesus and the Cross and His Resurrection. May I never grow weary or faint in telling Your Story. Amen.
