That this chapter began
with the sin of Nadab and Abihu caught my attention. Chapter 9 ended with the
joy of the people as the glory of God was manifest in the temple with the
anointing of the priests. How prone we humans are to
sin!
As I contemplated this, the
word-picture of what the Lord said to Cain, careened into my thoughts. If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?
But if you do not do what is right, sin is
crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master
it" (Genesis 4:7).
It seems like sin is always
crouching at our door…
Oh, Lord, this picture
frightens me. When a lion crouches, it is stalking a prey to pounce upon it… and
it seems so true that sin is always stalking me. Waiting to strike, wanting to
drag me down.
I don’t know the specifics
of how sin hunted down Nadab and Abihu, but it got them and they succumbed.
Lord, I don’t want to be sin’s next victim.
Help me,
Jesus, to live for You and to be strong in You… This I pray in Your name.
Amen.
