Saturday, April 20: Matthew 5– God’s word…

I cannot explain it, but my soul breathes a deep cleansing breath of air as I take in Jesus’ sermon on the mount. It is pure Jesus and it breathes life into me as I sit with the light dawning in the sky this morning.
The particular words that caught my attention were from verse 18: I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
Not a period, not a comma, not a crossed ‘t’ will disappear from God’s Word until everything is accomplished. If I have no personal internal motivation to read and study God’s Word, this lone verse should be motivation enough. The Law –God’s Word– is firm, established and permanent. It does not change, it is not alterable. Every word from Genesis 1:1 through Revelations 22:21 is given by God for our guidance and understanding.
Lord, I praise and bless You for the permanence and surety of Your Word. Thank You for depositing it into our world.
Forgive me when I fail to give Your Word the attention and recognition it is due. Forgive me when I treat it cavalierly as if it were any other book.
Steel me to do more than read and study Your Word, but to obey and live it through the power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
