Thursday, April 18: Matthew 3– repentance is a constant endeavor …

I found myself attracted to John the Baptist’s words, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near" (2).
In its context, these words were spoken to people as a call to get ready for the preaching of Jesus and the way to the Father He would declare. But as I sit here in the year 2013, I hear God calling me to examine my life and to change those parts of my life that are not God honoring. The kingdom is not only near, it is here. Jesus came proclaiming the kingdom of God. His life, death and resurrection ushered in the new age of God’s kingdom and it will come in full glory when Jesus returns.
Through Lent and Easter we recently celebrated the great work of Jesus. Time was spent examining and celebrating… and it was good. But if I have learned one thing in my walk with Jesus, it is that my life is easily sullied by the world. Sin is ever crouching and trying to devour me, so repentance is a constant endeavor, one that must never be far from my heart.
Hearing John the Baptist this morning calls me to examine and repent…
Lord, search me and know me… cleanse me and I will be clean, wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Crush me so that You get my attention should there be areas of defiance and rebellion in me.
Lord, I want to sing Your praise and be used by You to let the world know that Jesus lives, reigns and saves. I will be most effective when my life reflects Your glory…
Please purify me from all unrighteousness… for I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
