Tuesday, April 30: Matthew 13– Crop yield…

I found myself mulling over the parable of the sower. The sower is God who spreads His word liberally around to all. The question the parable presents is this…does the seed sown germinate and grow into a full crop?
Some people hear the Word but it never sinks in… that’s the seed that falls on the hard-packed path. It just doesn’t germinate at all!
Then there are people who seem to receive the Word with joy, but after a brief time they fall back into their pre-word ways. Germination of the seed stalls and the seed never matures… this is the seed in rocky soil. There just isn’t enough soil to support the seed’s full growth so it dies out.
Next comes seed, which never takes root. It starts to grow, like that in the rocky soil, but here the pressures of life –trouble, persecution, etc.- suck the life out of the seed and it withers and dies.
Finally there is the seed that comes to mature crop. Think of one kernel of corn,,, it produces a stalk with multiple ears of corn and each ear has hundreds of kernels… thus the extraordinary yield!
For me this parable offers a warning to examine my faith-life. Am I still growing, maturing, producing fruit? This is where I am pondering today.
How about you…???

Lord, nourish my soil with Your Holy Spirit so that my life will continue to grow in You and produce a kingdom yield of fruit that honors and blesses You, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
